And plain old curl from the command line, after approving the  
certificate gives the error:
	SSL read: error:14094410:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert  
handshake failure, errno 0

Why does the server only accept traffic over SSL?  This is probably  
unnecessary, and seems to be the cause of the problem.
