It's the other way around.  "{.ui}" and "{xu}" are both of {selma'o} UI, and so
they bind to the word immediately before them.  They only affect an entire
sentence when they come at the beginning of a text or after an "{.i}", which
causes them to modify whatever's on the right side of the "{.i}".

No, asking about another's feelings is done with "{pei}," and so "Are you
happy?" would be "{.ui pei}" (or "{xu do gleki}" for a strict translation).
