right, but jbovlaste says "pity / feel sorry for".  Given the "pity" could one really confuse it for "I feel pity for having done something"?

Maybe the word "being" instead of "person" so as to show that this doesn't necessarily have to be a human being?

"x1 is sorry for x2" would be ambiguous, it could mean "is sorry for
someone" or "is sorry for having done something". The "(person)" is
just to clarify that it is the first meaning.
