It seems an old usage. ta'u was inversely defined on the CLL, and Bob
LeChevalier says the latter is correct:

On jbovlaste, the English and the Spanish definitions are not yet
corrected, but the Lojbanic definition supports the CLL.

According to the current definition, the examples of ta'u and ta'unai sould be:

mi zdani platu .i ta'u mi platu lo zdani be mi
.i
mi platu lo zdani be mi .i ta'unai mi zdani platu
