Set phrases (was:[lojban-beginners] Bridi as Sumti)

We jbopre don't seem to have a lot of set phrases. This is most likely because of how young the language is, but it's still somewhat troublesome.

I'm no linguist, but I think we'd be hard-pressed to find a natural language, or even a sufficiently old constructed language (such as Esperanto), that does not have set phrases.

For instance, in English, we have "howdy", which comes from "How do you do?" but is used in the same manner as "hello". I'm sure given a bit of thought, each of you could come up with any number of similar examples in any number of languages. Japanese is chock-full of them, for instance.

One of the nice things about set phrases is that the connotational meaning of the phrase does not need to be exactly what the denotational meaning is. The other advantage is that set phrases are usually short and sweet.

I'm certain that, at least on IRC, there are at some phrases we tend to use for one thing or another. Do we have a place where these set phrases are listed?

The thing that brought this up in my mind was specifically my response to the question of how to say "Thanks in advance" in Lojban.

Usually we just say {ki'e} for "thank you". I would probably go with {pu ki'e}, as a shortening of {pu nunja'e zo'e ki'e} or possibly {pu zo'e jalge ki'e}.
