[lojban-beginners] Question about the role of logic in Lojban

I have read much of the available introductory literature on Lojban but I haven't been able to find out how much my logic background will help me learn Lojban. Are statement and predicate logic going to help the learning process or is Lojban different entirely? If you could tell me the similarities and differences that would be great.
