Re: [lojban-beginners] Re: Scientific Method

Whoa, I missed the February stuff there. Well, there certainly are a lot of proposals there... I'm not sure which one I think is best. Your proposal certainly is a good one, given the idea of a particular cultural influence on what we call science. But I don't see science as a cultural thing, or there being terribly different styles of it. I mean, do people in China or India do it differently than in the west? They come to basically the same conclusions don't they? As far as I know you only get the right answers if you do it right, so there's only really one way. Perhaps I need to study the topic more. I do like ciplogji too.

Alright, thanks of the help guys. It's a little disappointing though, finding something like this missing in lojban. Kind of ironic really given it being a "logical" language, that it doesn't have a word for science. I was hoping for this word for a project I was doing talking about science, but I guess I'll have to use some other word with an annotation somewhere about what I really mean by that.

We lack a lot of vocabulary indeed... But I find it very understandable that we lack jargon words such as "The Scientific Method". I don't see the irony. Lojban strives for being culturally neutral; it is only logical that our meager vocabulary focuses first on the more universal idea of knowledge, and only later on such specific concepts developed only recently and in a specific cultural environment.

And what did you think about {skientia} (as posted in the main group)?
