I think suggestion is a very important concept to the definition of "evidence". A fact F is evidence for hypothesis H if it suggests that H is true.
hypothesis: "all human beings enjoy cheese"
The fact that "I like cheese" suggests that the hypothesis is true (albeit it is a weak suggestion)
The fact that "my entire family likes cheese" suggests that the hypothesis is true (better)
The fact that "my grandpa does not like cheese" does NOT suggest that the hypothesis is true therefore it is counter-evidence
Wouldn't counter-evidence be evidence that suggests that the hypothesis is not true, rather than merely not suggesting that the hypothesis is true? Counter-evidence is evidence that the opposite is true.
