Others have mentioned others, but the best alternative I've found is Anki.

Main draws:

• Lot's of free-to-download decks already available (including a gismu and a cmavo deck)
• FOSS, cross-platform, and with an online and mobile version
• Supports audio & images, and robust fact/template system 
• Easy to import/export decks as text files

Main drawbacks:

• No way to "pause" for vacations, so cards can build up fast
• No built-in multiple-choice function like smart.fm (yet!)
• The audio feature seems buggy in my Ubuntu version
