I think first of all you should think how it would look like if Lojanistan invented computers and programming without the knowledge of what we do have now. Yes, I know it's hard, but... ;) [It's kinda good thing that computers were invented in English-speaking world, because English makes very nice keywords. If it was in Poland, we would have "jeśli"/"jeżeli" instead of "if"; "dopóki" instead of "while"; and "w przeciwnym razie" instead of "else"; etc. ;)]
For "if" my first thought was {cuxna}; it rather fits better to a "switch" or something like deconstruction in functional languages, but I think if I was a Lojbanistani inventing programming, I whould still choose it ;) On the other hand {GA ... GI ...} seems perfect for an if...else... construct. So yeah, maybe you're right with {ganai} :)
