Unfortunately I've no general suggestion that I could offer. The best
that I can think of is to ask here in the list when there's something
you don't get. Probably the process of trying to explain to you the
meaning of a sentence will also give you some hint on what you should
change in your mental model.

Just start with one of the text on the lojban.org site and see how far
you can go.
