Re: [lojban-beginners] Re: QuickDict

haha, I wasn't trying to compete with GD.  I was just packaging up a simple-minded script that I had written a while back and have since expanded to work with lujvo.  And anyway, having many options is never a bad thing.  If nobody finds my utility useful, then it won't get used, and that's fine.  I just wanted to share that which I have found to be useful.

So, I'm trying out goldendict.  As an example of making it work, I'm using google chrome on windowsXP and in gmail I am typing up an email.  Supposing the reply below has a word that I don't know (in fact, I'm curious about what your name means).  I'm looking at GD's "popup definition" feature.  How does it work?  I've enabled it under preferences and I can't get it to pop up the definition window.

I follow the same steps in notepad and it works fine.  Do I need to do something special to make it work with google chrome?

I've compared QuickDict (QD) with my GoldenDict (GD) distribution,
that can be found at http://sites.google.com/site/slovlacukt/file-cabinet.
Here is what we get.

Operating system.
 QD. Windows
 GD. Windows Linux Mac
Dictionaries
 QD. gismu cmavo lujvo (?)
GD. gismu cmavo lujvo + any other dictionaries including simplified
gismu, etymology, mnemonics, the whole jbovlaste and much more.
Search through dictionaries
 QD No
 GD Yes
Search history
 QD No
 GD Yes
Can copy the translation to clipboard ?
 QD No
 GD Yes
Size of distribution
 QD several kilobytes
 GD >12 megabytes

So the last feature is the only plus of QuickDict.
I don't mean QuickDict is bad, it's just less easy to use (for the
time being !).
If QuickDict can be expanded to Linux and Mac it would be wonderful.
