I think what was confusing is how jbofi'e knew to read it as {pa palku} rather than {papal ku} without spaces or stresses.

Everything you can do grammatically with LE, you can also do with LA,
so "la pa palku [ku]" and "la mi palku [ku]" are grammatically valid.
