Well, here in le mergu'e, we pronounce Bruce like lojban brus.
You should know, but I can't help feeling that you don't. The english is pronounced as a rounded schwa, while in lojban, we can only have a rounded back or unrounded front or mid. I'd expect the same pronunciation in america and a rounded front vowel from an Awstrailian.

Where I'm from (Southwest mergu'e), the u in bruce is pronounced
just like the oo in food.  (lojban u; brus.).

Which is, as I've said, a rounded schwa. (At least, I know some people in the northeast and a couple guys from california, who's oo in food is definately not the u in {sutra})
