Your explanation helps settle my mind, even though I'm not sure I'm up to coining new lujvo just yet. I think I'll stick to memorizing and trying to translate for a bit longer....

Good question. It does seem reasonable to me that you could make up a new lujvo whenever you need it. If it works well in your communication, perhaps you'll keep it around for later use. If not, discard it and come up with something better next time. If we are too hesitant about creating what we need, doesn't it keep the language from growing and evolving?
