"la'o" replaces "la", so I believe you should remove the latter

Yes, that is correct. Maybe "la .aksfyd." would be more phonetic, but I'm 
not English, so... Check out

"beyond the two of us" could be managed with :

"ma poi na cmima mi ce do cu xabju la .aksfyd."

"who, other than me and you, lives in Oxford"
