[lojban-beginners] Re: definition of 'philosophy'

A philosophy is a set of principles which provides a consistent and comprehensive frame of reference from which to judge man and his environment.

I suppose the beginning of the definition is perfect but the end ("...to
judge man and his environment") might turn out misleading. Defining
a concept You must be careful about not letting it be too specific so
it will very unfortunately exclude some elements that should be
considered 'philosophies'. IMHO the above definition is too strict, and
a philosophy that does not deal with Humanity at all might exist.
Like... um... think Descartes's system, how he described the world -
in which Man had really no concrete rule, it was not necessary to live
and be. And the view of Descartes is said to be a philosophy.
So I think the definition should be corrected somehow to apply to all
the philosphies one can think of (which is not easy, but who said it
was?).
