I thought about that, and while it's true that it is superfluous, I feel that 
for beginners it's easier to explain something regular, and then later move 
to the idea of eliding some words when possible.  In this context, however, 
especially since it's presented as a puzzle, I think the regularity wins, 
although I would be willing to entertain opposing views.
