yes, lojban for beginners and the complete lojban language are good
resources, but i wouldn't want anyone to jump into lojban without the
mailing list and/or the irc channel.

shouldn't take too long, a few weeks maybe, but estimates i do are
usually quite a bit off and it heavily depends on the amount of lazyness
involved :D

make sure to visit the #lojban irc channel on the freenode IRC network!
