"cifnu" can refer to any animal or plant; "caterpillar" is "ciftoldi". "nanla" 
and "nixli" I don't remember seeing used of other than humans, but wouldn't 
find them odd for "foal" and "filly". "verba" can be used of animals, but 
not, I think, of plants. "prenu" can be used of other than humans; lo patfu 
cevni cu prenu gi'enai remna.
