I always pronounce "r" as a tap, flap, or trill, except when it's syllabic or
preceded by 'x' ("xr" comes out as a voiceless simultaneous trill and gargle,
so it's still trilled, and "xrx" - well that would take too long to explain
and ...) or in a foreign name. It is quite okay to pronounce it as a tap.
