That we didn't hear exactly what you intended doesn't mean your 
pronunciation was incorrect, it may very well be that we are 
not capable of coping with a permitted variation. I know that I am 
quite inept at hearing Lojban "y", I will always tend to confuse it 
with an "a". 

I find this IPA chart with recorded sounds useful:

I think Lojban p,b,t,d,k,g,m,n,r,f,v,s,z,x,l correspond to their
IPA symbol. The remaining Lojban consonants are c,j which would be 
either the postalveolar or the retroflex fricatives from that
chart (which ones?). Lojban ',. are h and ? in the chart.
