This is an example that I think highlights the difference:

le bakni cu bacru zo mu
The cow says "moo".

le bakni cu cusku zo mu
The cow says "five".

{cusku} emphasizes that the speaker is communicating an idea. The fact
that the speaker is making a sound to do so is secondary, and may not
even be true - for example, we use {cusku} to refer to people posting on
this mailing list.

{bacru} emphasizes that the speaker is making a sound, and that the
sound might communicate something is secondary. Unless you're sending
sound recordings around, you can't {bacru} over a mailing list.
