I don't think that convenience in a hypothetical math usage
should trump convenience in everyday usage. Still, strings with
numbers would remain easy: {uburebu} instead of {ubure}
for U2, and there is no arbitrary restriction to the number
being in first position: {cibumy} for 3M.

Numbers with letters as digits would not be so straightforward,
but what would they be used for? The usual talk of using
letters for the units of dimensioned numbers is nonsense because 
units don't work like that in Lojban.
