hmmm, in over 25 years of knowing russian, i never had that feeling, and still don't.  russian "po" has lots of meanings, but they are still precise meanings, not interchangeable with other prepositions.  one of the advantages of selmaho BAI is that the words in BAI usually have a direct connection to a brivla with the intended meaning, and so they are easier to learn and remember.
