[lojban] terminators
There are currently 21 terminators in Lojban. Would it be possible (though I'm not proposing it) to create just one terminator to be used with every selma'o that currently has its own terminator?
Some examples of selma'o and their respective terminators:
BE be'o
BY/PA boi
COI/DOI do'u
FIhO fe'u
What I'm wondering is whether "be'o", "boi", "do'u", "fe'u", and etc. could be replaced by a two-part terminator consisting of a word from the selma'o, e.g. "be" for selma'o BE, and some other distinct cmavo, such as "vau". Thus "be'o" would become "be vau", "boi" - "by vau", "do'u" - "coi vau", "fe'u" - "fi'o vau", etc.
Thus 20 cmavo would become available for other uses (assuming one was retained as the new terminator), and the task of learning 21 terminators would be reduced to learning one.
My question, though, is not "Is it desirable?". The question is: Would it be possible to simply replace the terminators in the current grammar with this new kind of terminator? Would the grammar still work? I suspect look-ahead problems and/or undesirable interactions.
And what is the Lojban term for this kind of terminator? Something like "jufra fanmo" (or "jufyfa'o" as a lujvo)?
