I would say:

mi pu'o cliva le zdani ca le nu le fonxa cu janbe

This really says that I was about to leave, not that the leaving was
already going on. If you want to insist on that aspect, you might
say {mi pu'o mo'u cliva}, "I was about to complete the leaving",
but I don't think this is really necessary.
