interestingly enough, in russian the verse is
Otche! v ruki Tvoi predayu dukh Moj.
("Father! into Thy hands (I) 'give' my Spirit."  where 'predayu' is simply "transfer, hand over" with prefix pre- (a variant of pere-) 'across, over' and root da(v)- 'give'.  it's still used in modern russian with the same meaning.)
