Actually, I believe the official Lojbanic compass looks like this:

     B
   V + D
     N

See {be'a}, {du'a}, {ne'u} and {vu'a}.

IIRC, these were specifically chosen to have different first letters
(which meant not just deriving them from the corresponding gismu) so
they could be used on compasses.
