[lojban] Re: Lojbanising words?

Hello, and welcome to lojbanistan!

There are various acceptable approaches. For geographical entites,
I prefer to lojbanizeÂits offficial name i.e. in the language of of its country.
So, Athens would be http://jbovlaste.lojban.org/dict/atinas,
based on the Greek ÎÎÎÎÎ, Athina.
Â
In this approach, 'Canada' being a bilingual country, has two acceptable
pronunciations: kenyDAS and KEnydys.

'SÃo Paulo' requires a compromise i.e. lojbanizing as closely as possible:
http://jbovlaste.lojban.org/dict/saupaulos
Â
There is no justificationÂfor basing names onÂtheir English pronunciation unless
English is si the local languageÂ.
