Re: [lojban] Consonant Clusters?

The phonotactic rules in CLL are neither completely consistent nor completely
clear. xorxes and I, who have both done significant work on the problem,
disagree in various details.

For the start of a fu'ivla, I accept any cluster such that all pairs are
initially permissible, including arbitrarily long sequences of "st". xorxes
has a list of three letter sequences. I don't remember them all, but I
know "jgl" is one (jglandi=walnut).

Within a fu'ivla, xorxes accepts anything that can be broken into syllables,
whatever he allows for syllables, and doesn't contain forbidden substrings
such as "mz" or "ntc". He accepts "fasxolarto" but not "fasxolarkto". This
puts him at odds with nitcion, who prefers "fasxolarkto", as it's obvious to
him from that spelling that it's a mammal (koala to be precise), not a baked
good. I originally wrote "fasxolarto", thinking that "rkt" cannot occur in a
fu'ivla.

I accept cmevla like "mkparks", where all consonant pairs are valid but not
initially valid, but I don't think I've figured out how long they can get.
I'm not sure what xorxes accepts.
