Okay, pros and cons for moving such discussions to their own list (feel free to add your own):

Pros:
People who aren't interested in the discussions won't see them, because they won't be subscribed to that list.
Newbies won't be discouraged from learning Lojban due to seeing long, technical, abstruse discussions.

Cons:
People who are interested in the discussions will need to subscribe to a new list, and post those kind of topics exclusively on that list.

Based on just what I have above, we should have a "lojban-theory" list. I'd make it myslef, but that would mean I'd be subscribed to it, and I'm one of the uninterested people.
