lawyers

The lawyers are being paid off by a check (I'm paying next months final
payment early since I was late for December). Prothero has just assured
me that he intends to continue his commitment to pay his full 1/2 share,
which fell to $3500 in arrears before he started paying again in Sept.
Thus we will have a steady $250/month donation to support operations and/or
book publication for 14 months or so starting in March, with hopefully no
new lawyer bills to sop it up. Our expenses last year excluding the lawyers
was only $4500, though this was only a single JL and LK issue, 1990 and 1991
were around $7700 and $8000 respectively, I think for 2 issues each year,
excluding legal costs. Just maintaining the 100-odd subscriptions we have
now should give us another $3000 for the year, which gives us a base of around
$6000 plus the $1000 we'll have in the bank after paying for JL and LK 17
(I'm estimating $1000 for that, which is probably a little low). Thus, any new
donations and/or sales that we make will only improve our position. And we
still have yet to find out about Art Wieners corporate grant request (which
is not very far along, alas).

Now all we have to do is find money for the book publication, but it looks
like we have survived financially the recession and the legal battle.

I'm ccing this to Nick and Colin, who among the members are most unlikely
to make it to LogFest this year, and who hence I want to get the best info
I can for their inputs for the meeting. I'm not going to try to send the
info to other members, though I'll probably be calling pc this weekend to
talk about dates for LogFest.

Comments welcome.
