FWIW, I consistently make the vowel in "league" quite a bit longer than that
in "leak." Ditto seat/seed, sot/sod, boot/food (foot/food have different
vowels). and also ice/eyes (in which case it's more like "ice" is a
diphthong starting with schwa and "eyes" with /a/).
