dakau means exactly the same as makau, and was originally what we used.

which has a different emphasis/meaning than
ko'a djuno ledu'u mi klama le zarci
X knows that I went to the store.
ko'a djuno ledu'u makau klama le zarci
X knows who went to the store.
This can be extended to have kau modify more than an individual word, as a
UI can modify a construct:
ko'a djuno ledu'u makau fasnu
X knows what happened.
ko'a djuno ledu'u lenu mi klama le zarci keikau fasnu
X knows the event (my going to the store) that happened.
That was all of course where things were 5-10 years ago. I won't pretend to
understand where kau has gone since then, and whether these usages still fly.
