In taxonomy, marjoram is a kind of oregano, but that probably just means that 
botanists got around to naming oregano first. Onion is a kind of garlic, 
according to taxonomy, but according to Germanic plant names, garlic is a 
kind of leek, and the same root that is "leek" in English means "onion" in 
Russian. In Lojban, garlic and onion are separate roots, leek (kamjysunga) is 
a kind of garlic, and chives (tu'ursluni) are a kind of onion. I see no 
reason why oregano can't be considered a kind of marjoram.
