[lojban] Re: A Lojban Game

Being able to estimate one's proficiency and being able to see the results of one's hard
work would be a great way to encourage people to learn lojban. I've certainly seen this in
the game of Go and in some martial arts. The ranking systems used there reward one for
putting effort into learning and mastering the various skills and techniques required by
those arts.

In those systems it's hardly ever meaningful to compare the top two or the top few
individuals. There is no overall "winner". 

The aim is really to be able to assess what skill level a student/practitioner has, and to
then teach him/her the appropriate material to advance to the next level.

Sometimes there is no "curriculum" and a student only advances by showing himself to be
equal to those at higher levels ...

For the lojban community I suggest that ideally there should be a strong connection
between the teaching/learning material and the tests that award someone a ranking. For the
higher level lojbanists maybe they could assess each other's ability and rank themselves
(with some kind of voting system like the one suggested).

It would great if this system could award points to those who help construct it .. so that
the people who create the tests and do all the hard work of connecting it with the
learning material demonstrate themselves be to experts and earn a high rank.
