some resources on the net we can point to without re-inventing the wheel
here. Some basic guidelines and pointers to good articles elsewhere
rather than bogging up the lojban.org site with too much (slightly off
topic) material. I think it would produce too much content to have a
comprehensive recording guide hosted on site - there is just too much to
know. /
I'm not half bad with the Adobe lineup (Audition, Encore DVD, Premiere).
The real trick we're going to run into is dialogue during sound effects,
besides getting a dialogue free base track and doing it right, do you know
of any good methods for preserving the sound effects, or are we going to end
up recreating them?

/Foley (sound effects) is a small issue - remember that the reason we
may be able to sell this idea to film-makers is to see their work used
for educational purposes. For that, production values such as foley are
of minimal significance to the final outcome. Foley should be seen as
icing, the cake is getting free films to dub. We could develop propper
foley after dubbing is done, when room noise, ambiance, context sound
beds and other pieces are in place, and the dubbed voices can have
contextual reverb and filtering applied to match the environments. This
is a lot of work for a small community to do however, so lets stay
focused on getting films and basic dubbing done rather than looking too
far ahead into post-produciton issues.
I must state that at this time all I have gotten is a tentative ok from
one film maker. Please don't get too excited about doing this tomorrow -
there's a few steps and garantees i need to be able to give before
anyone is likely to hand over their film to me for this. I'll be looking
into using some variation of the creative commons licence to ensure
film-makers retain some control over their material after it leaves
their hands, and other such issues.
I'm looking at getting something for us to play with in the short term,
but by short I mean "kinda soon". In the longer term I'm looking at
ensuring the licensing and other such issues are bullet proof enough
that we can offer an adequate intellectual property rights package to
film makers. Then they will feel comfortable opening their films up to
smaller language communities (not just lojban, everything from esperanto
to ainu). This will allow small speech communities, without the
resources to produce their own films, a library of licensed works that
they can freely dub into their own language.
Many film makers would like to see their works "out there" without
losing control over their distribution, and folks such as the lojban
community would love access to these works as well, but it is utopian to
believe we could get access to these works in any number without being
reasonably professional about the limits of usage which will be allowed
under the agreement to re-use these works.
I'm getting back to research on licensing issues. By the way, does
anyone have much of an idea of how the BBC licenses for their CC
released works operate (is dubbing an option?) I'll keep you informed as
to how I go.
