Re: Where is our JL?

To Logical Language Group respond I thus:

#NO I hadn't. I keep hopin to get LK done so that I can mail them all
#at once. But I guess I've made you wait more than long enough,

Well, perhaps, but it's not as if we're unaccustomed to the wait :) No
great rush, though.

#Your posting of lujvo list #3 did not explain some things I know
#(e.g. what the partenthesized words are at the start of the list),

Oh. I assumed that would be obvious...

#and some things I don't
#(Have you processed all of the words that I sent you citations for?)

Yes. The list is completely 100% up to date.

#If the list you posted is essentially fro comment and you will be getting
#back to me with a further edit after such comments, then I'll just file
#it for archive.

That's best. I anticipate a lot of comments. (Whether I get them is another
matter; the list is quite a handful...)

#Sorry for the LOONG delay (I haven't evben mailed out some
#orders dating back to Feb., I've been so dictionary minded the last
#several weeks - pat me on the back please %^)

*pat* *pat*

*smile*

Seriously, that's the kind of news I like to hear. You wouldn't have any
idea yet whether you'll be done by year's end?

It occurs to me that an English-Lojban dictionary is needed --- not a full
dictionary, but a list of words and their Lojban equivalents, with the
reader referred off to the gi'uste and jvoste for place structures and
definition details. Such a dictionary would have to be synonym-heavy.

Also, as a preliminary, perhaps, to this, we should take a 'basic' word
list (the Esperanto _Baza Radikaro_ is sitting in my directory with
this in mind), translate it into Lojban, fill in any lexical blanks,
and, uh, stuff like that. I'm not proposing to do this *right* now,
because...

I'm supposed to be busier than I am: my Pragmatics lecturer wants a draft
of a presentation outlining a computer implementation of implicature in
36 hours, and I've scarcely started reading. I'll ask the man whether he
wants the linguistics building moved a few inches to the right while I'm
at it. Btw, after my Masters finishes next year, I will be sure to start
a PhD in Linguistics (whether as such, or under the guise of CogSci at
Edinburgh; I don't really feel like emigrating, but we'll see). And to a
large extent, Lojban seems to be to blame for me alighting on Linguistics.

I want to take the opportunity to express my sincere thanks to you (qua
Lojban effort leader, as well as as an individual) for the help, insights,
and motivation you have given me these past two and a half years.

StarTrek's on in a half hour; I only get to see two hours of TV a week, and
this is one of them; so I'll get out of here. Good luck, and all that.

Yours,
