Yep, the list is active. Traffic tends to be quite low though. I'm pretty
new to the language myself and am trying to learn it also. I can recommend
getting the reference grammar 'The Complete Lojban Language'. It's well
worth the money and makes it much easier than reading the text online. The
book is excellent quality as well.

I've found the Logflash tools available at the ftp site very useful as well.
If you can run MSDOS programs they are worth getting - especially the gismu
tester. There have been some good threads on how to use these programs
effectively and you may be able to find these on the mailing list archives.

Learning as many of the the gismu and some of the more commonly used cmavo
have been the keys for me being able to understand at least some of the
lojban conversations that are made on this list. Chatting via IRC during
logfest was fun too - if you are interested in IRC chat to discuss/use the
language then let me know.

There are two sound files available at:

ftp://xiron.pc.helsinki.fi/pub/lojban/lojcons.wav
ftp://xiron.pc.helsinki.fi/pub/lojban/lisri.wav

There are also gzipped versions available which you may prefer:

ftp://xiron.pc.helsinki.fi/pub/lojban/lojcons.wav.gz
ftp://xiron.pc.helsinki.fi/pub/lojban/lisri.wav.gz

These are portions of an audio tape and are people speaking lojban. The text
they are speaking appears to be taken from the draft of the lojban textbook
available from the ftp site. That may help with some of the
pronunciation....although I still can't get my poor english speaking self to
get the 'x' consonant!!

What else....oh yeah - don't give up if the going seems tough...I had lots
of difficulty learning it at first then I starting actually trying to write
lojban each day and thinking to myself during the day 'how would I have
stated this in lojban' and it all started to click.

Alas I'm not in the UK - I'm in New Zealand - but keen to learn and share
lojban with my more distant (in terms of location) friends :)
