AFAIK the Chinese have *always* thought it was Glorious To Get Rich (And
Live Forever Too).  Most of what Westerners think of as typically
Chinese is either an ancient import (Buddhism), a home-grown counterculture
(Taoism), or a modern import (Marxism).  Not to say that Taoism didn't
also become a method of Getting Rich and Living Forever.
