A completely valid point. As you said, it's been fun to work on just
as a project, so it doesn't really need any further justification.
But even aside from that, the 'familiar' letters are only familiar for
those who are raised speaking a languages which is written with a
latin alphabet. This kind of 'weighting' defeats Lojban's ideal of
being as culturally neutral as possible, and a script which is
unrelated to any other is one of the ways to approach that ideal.
That said, the aforementioned 'ideal' was really only the inspiration
for this little project - the enjoyment of the process itself was the
main motivation for me :)
On another note, if anyone's still interested at all... :) the third
revision of the the script is online here:
http://www.lojban.org/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Lakmir.%27s+Orthography+v3&bl
I'm quite pleased with this one, I feel that it's very close to being
finalised. If anyone has any further comments or recommendations, I
will take them into consideration, otherwise rev4 will just be a
careful aesthetic tweak and then i'll upload it as Truetype for
everyone to play with.
Thanks for your comments Dave :)
