It's a famous gardenpath. You parse it as "The horse raced past
the barn" until you get to "fell", and backtrack to reanalyse
"raced" as a passive in a reduced relative instead of a preterite.

So a good Lojban translation would not necessarily have anything
to do with horses and barns, but would gardenpath. The snag of
course is that Lojban is designed to be ungardenpathable.
