[lojban] "merely"

How would you express this in lojban?  I'm pretty sure it'd be a discursive or evidential, but I couldn't find an appropriate one.

I did not kill john.  I merely hit him.

I was thinking {po'o}, but that might just be malglico telling me that sometimes you hear "I didn't kill john.  I only hit him".  I don't think it has the same connotation.
