[lojban] New beginner
coi
I have just started to learn about lojban. As of now, I have read all
of "What is Lojban" and am making my way through the reference
grammar. I am very interested in this language for multiple reasons:
logicalness, well laid out grammar, and spelling (having had to change
some of this post because I couldn't remember how to spell a few words
and was too annoyed to get out my dictionary).
I wanted to share a lojbanic experience that I had today. I was
digging around the website and came across the FAQ which contained a
section "I don't speak English" when I noticed that in addition to
Spanish and others, a response was also in lojban. Having just started
to come to terms with the basics of the language and considering it a
challenge, I grabed a notebook and pen and along with the online
dictionary, set out on my first lojban journey; what I found was
extremely entertaining and witty. Here is the kicker: I tried to write
an English translation of this little quip but found it increasingly
hard to put into a grammatically correct English sentence. Having
studied Spanish before, I'm used to being able to describe things
differently and more effectively in one language over the other but
was never so marveled by no matter what I tried, the original lojban
seemed to be better than what ever I could muster.
Have you guys had other experiences of this nature; finding it hard to
put things into your native tongue?
Looking forward to more learning,
kail.
