Re: [lojban] Re: How it should have been. And how it could be.

Gismu (basic words) were derived from the corresponding words in a number of major world languages by an algorithm that took into account the number of speakers of the languages and some other factors.  The whole project was finished by a little tweaking here and there.  Cmavo are partly by tradition (from Loglan), partly a priori (here is a nice unused bit of word space) and partly from similarity to gismu of related meanings (this also had a role in Loglan).  Compound words are made from compound phrases by dropping bits (according to rules) from the components.  Words incorporating words from other languages are treated by Lojbanding the foreign word and attaching it to an explanatory Lojban predicate.  There are rules -- some rather complex -- for these latter two cases.

A quick put-of-topic question, I'm somewhat busy. What do you generally use for Lojban or more precisely, what did the original staff of Lojban use to generate words? I'm pretty sure they're not human-generated! I tried Awkwords web site but I can't get it to run offline, my spiders aren't so good.
