[lojban] Yet another PEG question ...

coi rodo
I'm attempting to understand the PEG better and although I am sure
the answer to My question is documented somewhere, I am having the
dangdest time finding it. I am looking at the PEG and I lines like
these:
        NORATS CMAVO-word-pre <- " CMAVO=( "
        NORATS CMAVO <- CMAVO-word-pre inner-word close-paren
/If/, and this is a big 'if', I understand correctly, such lines mean
a parser attempting to find a cmavo in a portion of lojban text should
look for (literal) "CMAVO=(" followed by some other text followed by a
literal ")", which would suggest some form of pre-interpretation of
said lojban text before parsing. But how could such be? Would not the
purpose of the parser be to perform such interpretation? I am sure I
am missing something. (I know. I know. "xuink., You miss so many
things." ;-P) But I am just not seeing what that 'something' is in
this case.
