Botanical Latin (much of which is Greek) has a great influence on English
plant names, so I don't find that odd. Geranium, azalea (obsolete genus),
rhododendron (now includes azalea), violet (Viola), coleus, cactus, ... Some
Lojban animal or plant names are from indigenous languages, e.g. "arxokuna"
(aka prokiono or lumge'u) and "ckankua" are both from the same Algonquian
sources as the English words. I recently added "xomxeci", from the Seri
language spoken in the area where the plant grows.
