[lojban] pronunciation and "x"

I can say {citmle} without anything syllabic, as far as I can tell; is that difficult for you? Note by the way that this is in contrast to a number of pronunciation difficulties that I still have; my {x} is still quite weak, for example, and can be hard to tell from my {k} in a number of positions in words. So somehow it seems like if I can say it, lots of people should be able to? Or something?

I don't really like the sound, both for malgli and nalmalgli reasons, of {cit-} in general, though. Put differently, {citmle} doesn't sound like what it means.

Hmmm.  Your comment makes me a little nervous.  "x" has always been an annoying sound for me but I think I finally have it.  Based on the CLLs description and the fact that somewhere where it talks about lojbanizing names it suggests "x" as a possible replacement for "h" made me feel pretty comfortable about it.

But then I'll hear someone say "it's like the 'ch' in the scottish 'loch'" and think "wait, I pronounce that like 'lock' and when I hear a scottish person say it it always sounds more like a 'k' to me".  Or for example I read your message about how your "x" sometimes sounds like "k" and that makes me think even moreso "oh no.. my 'x' sounds more like an 'h' that's kind of flemmy or like I have a fishbone in my throat or something.... where are these 'k's coming from".

Oh blech.  Then I listen to the audio here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voiceless_velar_fricative and read how "It is not to be confused with the voiceless uvular fricative".  And I can barely hear the difference.  Though if I had to say which one my "x" sounds more similar to it would be the second one since it sounds more "h"y than the first one.

Blech.  Maybe later I'll record myself pronouncing it and lo jbocecmu can give me some feedback if they have the time?
