Indeed I think a relevant major feature of Spanish phonology is that undressed vowels don't reduce; they do in English and Portuguese, where vowel confusion is nearly the only comin kind of error in spelling I've encountered.
Lojban, like Spanish and Mandarin but unlike English, doesn't do that.
